At 4:15 you say "clearly, there is no titanium in there".
Most likely, there is Titanium Dioxide.
Any plastic with any white has it. And , since they took the lead out of paint, all paint has it. Check the label on powdered coffee creamer. It's in there too. TIO2 has a very high density, and will add mass. The translucency of your sample shows the content is low, so it won't add much. They added enough to say they did, to impress impressionable consumers.

Test has merit to see which produces the least damaging cut which is important for grass health.
However, I hate to say it but hanging the weight on the grass is completely different from cutting grass. The weight obscures the ability of the line to "bite" into the free standing grass without sliding as the grass blade is bending out of the way.
A line which "bites" will cut the grass with minimal "bending over" resulting in a more accurate cut height. Now keep in mind that while a blade of grass is easy to bend, the string velocity is high and the higher it is, the more effect the grass blade's inertia comes in to play.
If velocity is quasi-static, the grass bends out of the way and nothing happens. If the velocity is extremely high, the inertia will keep the blade from bending at all and the bite of the string has no effect. Of course you could look at the cut: is it a nice slice like with scissors or a ragged rip. (NOTE: the test of good hedge trimmers is a nice slice and no rips.)
I believe if the line does not bite, the weed eater will perform poorly in high, dense, "needle" leaf grass (is that fescue?) I believe you were testing on a rye grass with a nice broad, thing leaf.

lol 2 million views: slo mo weed whacker... wtf has happened to the world. slow !@#$ing news day I guess... 2 million unreal Justin you are a cool guy but the internet going public was the beginning of the end. the addiction that is so powerful nobody dare utter the truth. Dont get me wrong the instant 2 way communication that is quickly replacing the one way communication of the tv is a good thing. Before the internet the one way communication of tv, radio, newspaper and magazine's said what ever they liked and we just listened. the main stream media still says what ever they want but now we can chime in. Huge Change, Ginormous even. It is not surprising with this new power that the extremists and anarchists are the loudest, I just wish the politicians would stop stop pandering to them and figure out that they are a small majority relatively. Reasonable people want police reform, extremists want to abolish police altogether. Anyways, the addiction nobody will admit cuz there isn't anyone in opposition, the internet is the path to self destruction. Agenda driven tabloid news is fostering the divide and taring the country apart. That is something China and Russia could only dream of doing, the msm pitting Americans vs Americans - eroding the country from the inside out for attention and clicks.

As a medic and a dad who does NOT enjoy weed eating, would it be more effective to use the line that does the most damage/ least clean cut? I'm certainly not a botanist so if I'm completely off base here then someone correct me but in humans and animals, a cleaner cut will heal faster. If the same applies to plants then using a line that creates the most trauma should increase the time it takes for the grass to regrow and require cutting. Factor that with how well the line itself holds up and you should find the most efficient line for your weed whacker.

Once while taking a bath i saw drops on a surface of tub. As soon as i touced A DROP with my finger, the drop formed a shape similar to a concave lens between my finger and the surface and it happened really fast.I thought that the drop would spread out when i touch it but it just pulled up toward my finger.
I wanted to ask if you could make a slow mo on this and explain the physics behind it.

One thought on the goal of this research. The initial assumption/goal for this was you were looking for the type of line that would do the best job of cutting the grass. However, there is a little more to it. When you cut the grass given that some tear, some delaminate and some cut the grass how it re-grows afterward could be/should be a factor as well no? For example, while one line might cut the cleanest or easiest how does the grass recover from that cut? You may end up with a faster cut lawn, however, you may end up with more brown-headed blades of grass afterward. Taking this a step forward finding the pareto-optimal solution to fast cut and aesthetic grass sounds like a truly worth ig-nobel level of research

I tried just about every different kind of line I could find (various prices, shapes, etc) over the years until I started using some pink star shaped stuff with about 6-7 sides that twist along the line, its VERY sharp on all the corners and very rigid to the point it cuts my hands up when i restring the head, the "flutes" dig in like a drill bit as the line tries to twist while I wrap it around, but the swearing and the stinging cuts are worth it for how much longer it lasts compared to everything else I have used, it seems to cut better or at least just as good, my primary concern is how strong it is because I hate bumping the head to feed more line constantly and then restringing it. I lost the packaging a long time ago and it has lasted me so many years that I am just hoping I will be able to find the same stuff again when I run out. As you demonstrated the difference in noise level I also realised myself that this line is considerably more pleasant to use than regular round line for that reason also. My ONLY complaint with this particular line is that when pieces do snap off (bump the head and the excess gets cut off) and those pieces hit my legs...... they cut flesh VERY well, adding to my pain I started using an 18 volt brushless trimmer instead of the Honda and the slower speed and increased torque seems to only make the pieces aim for my legs better :P big issue in summer because it is TOO HOT to wear long pants but in winter its not so bad :D

It seems like the star may have more of the right turbulating pitch to create more of "golf ball" dimple effect (if the dimples are too deep or large you lose the aerodynamic advantages) as aerodynamic turbulators versus the coarse pitch of the square which I think might trip the turbulence into less stable oscillating state. I bet if you could do an even more high speed camera and at different angles you could see the way the air it is passing though causes vibration in the filament. It'd be interesting to see a study that gets more into the specific velocity of impact and the stiffness of each line with one blade of grass versus an increasing density of blades it must go through to determine specific cutting efficiency per mass of material removed in the cut and for different DOC for a static amount of KW/HP in. I'm going to stop before my wife wants to strangle me for nerding out on DEchannel at midnight... Cant help it. (Kietty, if you're reading this I'm sorry but not sorry... love you babe ;) )
